In a surprise move that stunned the nation, Wisconsin has officially taken possession of the Upper Peninsula, citing that they simply "couldn't resist the cheese-curd potential." Governor Tony Evers, wearing a cheesehead hat and holding a giant slice of cheddar, announced the acquisition with a grin, saying, "We’ve always been a little jealous of the U.P.’s natural beauty, but mostly we just wanted to keep the Yoopers from bragging about their better snowmobiling trails." As part of the deal, the U.P. will be renamed "Cheese Peninsula" and all inhabitants will be required to celebrate National Cheese Day as a public holiday. Experts predict an influx of both snowplows and cheese-based tourism, but no one knows exactly how to pronounce "Cheese Peninsula" in Yooper dialect just yet.
